Information for Patients

 This is a general guideline for patients/visitors coming into the hospital.

Parking at the hospital, Patients and visitors to the hospital can use car park A adjacent to the New QE hospital or car park D situated in Main drive (next to Nuffield House) Car park F (multi storey) can now be used by Visitors and Patients between 14.30 and 1800 (no admission after 1800 hrs. Disabled badge holders have free parking. Weekly passes can be purchased for £20.10, reducing costs considerably, available from Kiosks inside the car parks. For more information please see directions on main menu. Please note. The ticket machines will not accept £20 notes if cost is under £10. Change given & Cards accepted

  • Infection control. In order to keep infection to an absolute minimum, hand gels are provided on each ward and clinical areas, please make sure you use them upon entering/leaving ward and clinical areas.

  • Taxis.  Taxis are readily available, to call one please ask reception staff (no charge for call) 

  • Buses. A good bus service operates to the hospital from New Street Station and drops you off right to door, no’s 98/99 x64 quick service. There is also a bus service now from Dudley bus station, takes you to QE, it takes approximately 1hr 20m  Click here for website

  • Sat Nav Postcodes.  New QE Hospital B15 2WB  for Old QE Hospital/Translational Medicine  B15 2TH
  • Timetable display.  Live timetable displays are available for next departure of Trains, Buses etc. in atrium.
  • Support Group. On wards every Wednesday evening 7.00pm. Wards 726/727
  • Internet Access. Wi-Fi access is now available free of charge provided by QEHB hospital charities. You only need your email address to log in. Available at QEHB Hospital, Nuffield House, Heritage Building, Trust Headquarters, Haematology Clinic, Post Grad Centre and the Learning Hub.
  • ATM machines. 2 are available, by reception and Costa Coffee (New QE) (free withdrawals) 
  • Visiting Times. Visiting times are between 11.00am and 8.00pm including Weekends.
  • Liver Ward. Liver Ward is situated on the 7th Floor wards 726 /727Tel No’s 0121 371 7303, 7305,7307
  • Liver Outpatient Department. Floor 0 New QE hospital waiting area 2 (blue seats)
  • Liver Assessment Patients. Ground floor OLD QE hospital (now Heritage Building)
  • Buggy Service. A free buggy service operates between car park A adjacent to new QE hospital for patients/visitors with walking difficulties to new hospital.
  • Volunteers. Volunteers are always on hand to help/assist patients with directions, wards, buggy etc. (lookout for blue tops) all wear ID badges for security.
  • Shops/Restaurants. There is a WH Smith’s, (papers, mag’s, confectionary, sandwiches, drinks etc and small items for hospital stay, slippers, hygiene items etc. Costa Coffee, Plaza Restaurant serving hot meals (reasonable prices) 2nd floor, and a small cafe for tea, coffee and light refreshments on ground floor.
  • Lifts. 4 main lifts operate in the new hospital for patients/visitors, smaller lifts are available around Hospital.
  • Smoking. Smoking is not allowed in the vicinity of the hospital, please adhere to this. RED shelters are provided. Please use them.
  • Link Bridge. A link bridge walkway connects the Old QE with the New QE hospital. 2nd floor, this is a long walk but chairs are situated half way, not advisable if you have walking difficulties.
  • Fruit and Veg Store. A fresh fruit and veg store operates daily outside the hospital for patients and visitors.
  • Flowers.  As with other hospitals/trust policy flowers are not allowed in hospital.

  • Library. A mobile internal library attends the wards twice a week.

  • Post Box. A post box is available at the main reception area. Collection 2pm daily NOTE box is Blue not Red!
  • Guide Dogs/Volunteers.  A guide dog rest area is provided at reception desk, and volunteers are trained in helping with patients and their guide dogs, ask at reception for more information. 
  • Public phone. A public phone  is available, situated by endoscopy waiting area 3, past reception desk.
  • Faith Centre.  A multi faith centre, catering for all faiths/religions, beliefs, hospital chaplains are available, all denominations, all welcome. 1st Floor. Above Costa Coffee.
